End of Day Two

Alright yous guys!

So it's the end of my second day here and wow i'm exhausted. Like no kidding, we just now got finished with everything and can go to sleep. Emma, my totes awesome roommate, is getting ready for bed, so I figured I'd whip this up before I get ready for bed too. So, with Avril Lavigne's Here's To Never Growing Up (a bit ironic, and a little sobering, since the fact that I'm finally here and growing up hasn't quite hit me yet) playing in the background I bring you my report of the days events!

I have some pretty good news; I made three new friends, all surprisingly guys. They're names are Zac, Trevor, and LJ. I met them over the course of the day, and am actually getting to eat breakfast with them in the morning (yay I don't have to eat alone!!!). It's safe to say that these guys are total nerds like me, two of them being into anime, and the third sort of being outsiderish looking, but an actually pretty cool kid. All three are pretty exuberant about things and it's great to meet people that I have that in common with.

I'm still trying to get used to the food here, which has been going pretty well, except I am still super hungry by the time I go to bed. Which is why I currently have water heating up in the microwave to cook some ramen noodles. I think one of my favorite things about the caf though, is that hardly anyone actually uses plates. Like, I'm not kidding. Students pile the food on their trays. Don't believe me? Here's a picture:

Don't worry, the trays are steam and thoroughly washed, so they're perfectly healthy to eat on!

Let's see, I guess I should tell you all what I did today...

So, I went to bed pretty late last night, well after midnight I think. I got a pretty decent sleep, only waking up a handful of times because, let me tell you people, I had some pretty messed up dreams. Anyway, back to my story. So, for some reason, I decided that I was going to be super amazing and awesome, and wake up at 7:30. Now, the reason was simple. I didn't have to be up and doing anything until 1:30. But I didn't want to waste my time by sleeping, no siree! So what did I do? I got up at 7:30 and went to the WAC to run a mile! And it was a very good mile if I do say so myself. :) Anyway, I made a super quick breakfast since by that time it was 8:30 and breakfast stops at 9. I was super hungry, but my choice of breakfast (or maybe just the overwhelming hunger) made me sick. Anyway, after breakfast I trudged my way back to the dorm and took a shower.

So, quick side story. My aunt got me this really cool towel wrap with shoulder straps and those snazzy twisty turbine hair wrap things for showering in. I noticed when I got back to my dorm after my shower (the showers weren't as bad as I thought they'd be, you'll be glad to hear) that I kind of looked like one of those housewives from the sixties that would be on a commercial for towel wraps or bath soap. I pointed this out to my best friend and sent her this picture for the lulz.

Like no kidding I felt like I should have been in the time range from the sixties to eighties or something.

Anyway, I ran to grab lunch and sat with some pretty cool ORs (oh, orientation leaders or something) and then we had to go to this seminar thing at 1:30. It was sort of Academic Life thing that just gave us info. This is where I met Zac, and then later Trevor. I was asking a question about what we would do if one of our intended majors aren't actually offered at Hendrix and the speaker asked me what my majors were. They're Chemistry and Aerospace Engineering. Well, in a lull in the questioning, Zac, who was sitting behind me, leaned forward and said he thought it was cool that I was going into Aerospace and that he wanted to major in Biomedical Engineering. You guys know how in Star Wars, Luke gets his hand cut off and has to have a robotic replacement? Zac wants to do stuff like that; making prosthetics and improving them, which is really cool! If I remember correctly, he wants to finish the pre-Engineering program at the Washington State University up in Missouri (at least I think that's the school).

See, Hendrix doesn't actually offer Engineering as a major. So instead, they have this thing where you attend Hendrix for three years, taking "engineering course" (which I think are for a Physics major) and then you go to one of the three partner schools, Vanderbilt, the Washington one in Missouri, and then somewhere else that I think is either North or West of us? But anyway, I'm getting off topic.

So, when we were allowed to walk around for a few minutes since it was stiflingly hot in our room, we were out talking and we just so happened to meet Trevor. I don't quite recall what he was going to major in but I believe one of them was Religuous Studies and the other was some sort of Science or Engineering. Once our Academic thing was done, we were to go meet with our Advising groups/peer advisors/Advisor to get a start on making our schedules. I have my tentative schedule here with me, but I won't have anything official until Monday. I'll post it then, so be on the lookout Mom and Dad (if I actually got you to read this)! From there we went with our little group of students and student advisors to eat dinner, where I secretly took that picture of one of my leaders trays. OH! and I got a disco tray you guys!

If any of you are curious as to what that is, it's sort of like a remnant leftover from the sixties. They're light green, almost white, with these gold threads and little specks all over them. The story is that if you get one, you'll have good luck. It's pretty cool! Let's see what did we do next. Oh! at 7 we had to be at the auditorium for this Choices 101 thing. The ORs did these skits on how not to make bad choices and all these different things. Some of them were pretty awkward, but at least I did find out while Zac and I were commenting on them that like me, he doesn't drink. After that we had to cross campus and go to the football field for some two hour long thing where we basically met almost everyone in our class. That's like 456 people or something. I don't actually remember anyone's name. But on the way over there is where we met LJ. Emma had popped up before we went into Choices 101 and so while we walked over to the field, she got to talking to him, since he wound up walking behind us. I think they were discussing music and I jumped in and we hit it off pretty well with music tastes. He also got along really well with Zac which was a good sign!

after that we got back to our dorms for some kind of meeting that lasted until like 11:30 and then we could go to sleep. I've been writing this post ever since, and it is nearing 12:40 am as I type this sentence. I'm exhausted and have to finish my ramen and then go to bed because I have to get up at 7:50 for breakfast and another full day of meeting with advisors and just goofing around. But before I go, i'm going to dump some photos here that should have been on my first post for move in day!

This is my bed, it looked a lot better yesterday when it was made but this is what it looks like. I am squished between a pillow along the wall and a body pillow so I don't roll out of bed. I literally have six inches of space to sleep on.

Here's a random picture I took about half an hour ago while I was making ramen. See that shirt? one of my awesome younger friends got it for me when she was visiting family in California this summer. I love it. It has an Indian girl in a headdress and nerd glasses.

This is my desk. As you can see it is very cluttered and I only moved in yesterday. I am very unorganized and that is a problem...

this here is my closet. It's tiny, but everything fits and it's awesome. I hung some posters I bought while in Chicago on my senior trip in April. There's a Worlds Fair poster I got and a planetary poster (that came from Adler Planetarium). There is a little sticky note in the corner where I drew a chibi Pluto because is still a planet to me it's just a tiny planet. Seriously though, it's classified as a dwarf planet, which will forever remain as meaning still a planet just itty bitty to me.

Here is a picture of my ramen. It was chicken flavored and I feel so much better now that I've eaten almost all of it.

Here's a bonus photo of me eating my ramen.

So that's it for today. Tomorrow is going to be great and then Friday I leave for the weekend orientation trips. If i'm not too exhausted when I get back on Sunday I'll write up a post for it or do it during move in for the other students. Anyhow, i'm tired and really need to go to sleep, so good night everyone and thanks for listening.
